Get a clearer practice result.
Most issues can be solved by checking microphone permission, choosing the correct practice language, and recording one short word in a quiet place.
The microphone does not start
Open the device or browser settings for L & N and allow microphone access. On Apple platforms, also allow speech recognition. Then return to the app and tap Record again.
The score says confidence is low
- Move away from fans, music, or other voices.
- Keep the device about 15–30 cm from your mouth.
- Say only the word shown on screen, at a natural pace.
- Confirm that English, 普通话, or 廣東話 matches what you are saying.
I see a waveform but no score
The microphone recorded your attempt, but the word recognizer did not return usable text. L & N deliberately does not invent a score in this case. Check your connection if you are using the PWA, say only the displayed word, and try once more. The message below the recorder will confirm that no score was saved.
Practicing L and N
For both sounds, place the tongue tip at the ridge behind the upper front teeth. For L, keep the nose closed and let air pass around the sides of the tongue. For N, make a complete oral seal and lower the soft palate so air exits through the nose. Use the interactive cutaway in Learn as a teaching guide—not as a scan or measurement of your mouth.
Interface language versus practice language
The globe menu changes the app’s interface. The English / 普通话 / 廣東話 tabs change the words and recognition language you practice. These controls are intentionally independent.

Email echomind@lazying.art and include “L & N” in the subject. Do not attach private medical records or sensitive voice recordings. For non-sensitive bugs, you may also use the project’s GitHub issue tracker.
Clinical note
L & N gives educational feedback and is not a diagnosis. If pronunciation difficulty affects daily communication or causes concern, consult a qualified speech-language pathologist.
